'Internet of Things' Begs Push for Privacy Rights
At a ministerial meeting in Nice yesterday, European officials discussed privacy and security challenges associated with the Internet of the future, reports EurActiv.com. The future Internet, they say, will be an "Internet of Things," where consumer goods will interact with one another. Consumer privacy rights must be taken into consideration before this transition takes place, said some present. French officials called for a consumers' right to deactivate radio frequency identification (RFID) tags, which are considered the glue of the "Web of Things." The outcomes of yesterday's meeting will inform the EU Telecoms Council conclusions, due in late November.
